Welcome to the first ever Making Coffee Devotional! This is a small devotional to start your day as you are making coffee in the morning!
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1
There are so many voices pulling for our attention, but how do we know which is truth? This isn’t a new question and we see it addressed in 1 John. This is something I see many people struggle with on a daily basis. They have multiple influences pulling for their attention and they don’t know who or what to listen to.
Scripture needs to be our filter. When we make the Word of God our filter, then many of those voices that keep pulling for our attention will disappear. This is something we need to walk out in our daily life. After a while, we will begin to see what is of God and what isn’t. To your surprise, some of the things you love might not be of God. The conviction you will feel is God calling you to grow closer to Him. Follow that conviction of the Spirit and see how He continues to purify you.
This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. 1 John 4:2-6
We have overcome the spirits that pull for our attention by the power of God. I encourage you to keep that in mind today. To filter everything through God’s Word and to remember that you have overcome!
