The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught. Isaiah 29:13

In the context of this verse, God’s people were merely doing religious acts they had grown up doing while blatantly¬†sinning against God, turning against God in their daily life. For Israel, the religious acts were merely a formality, They began to worship false gods.

God doesn’t want our half-hearted worship. He doesn’t want us to be “Cultural Christians”. He wants us to be all in, fully devoted followers of Christ. There is no part of the Bible that says it’s perfectly fine to be half way following Jesus. Instead, time and time again, God calls His people to be fully devoted to Him. This was the problem with Isreal at the time. They were following false gods and not truly worshipping the Lord.

God is worthy of all of our praise and nothing less. Today, think of things in your life that are holding you back from worshipping God wholeheartedly and put God above those things. Put God above all else in your life.
