Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. Ephesians 4:28
Why do we work? Yes to provide for ourselves and for our families but we also do it for another reason. This verse tells us to do something useful with our hands so that we may share with those in need.
When we look at the early church we see that everyone shared what they had with each other (Acts 2:45). God’s will for us is to be truly generous. Being generous is a lifestyle, it is a character transformation that can only be truly done through the power of the Holy Spirit. If we do a generous act that doesn’t automatically mean that we are generous people.
To show true love is to be generous. When we help those in need, we are showing the love of Christ. In your quiet time today, write down some things God is leading you to do in generosity. Along with that, begin to pray that the Lord begins to build in you a generous heart.
