Would you ever put a box over a lamp or cover a candle so no one could see its light? Of course not, but that is what we do when we hide what Jesus has done in us and through us.
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
What Jesus is telling us to do is, let our joy from the Spirit shine through. We are the light of the world. We have a hope greater than anything else, the saving power of Jesus. No matter what comes our way, we should be so overcome with joy that nothing can put our light out. The good news of Jesus is that light. The Holy Spirit in us helps us and empowers us to share that good news.
When you go about your day, let your light shine before others through your work, friendships, and acts of kindness. These are just some of the ways we can let our light shine. Through these ways, we glorify our Father and when people ask what our hope is that makes us want to do what we do, we can point them to Jesus.
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 1 Peter 3:15
